Mary Mara shared haunting post calling water ‘soothing’ before suspected drowning

A year before she is believed to have drowned, Mary Mara posted a now-harrowing message online praising the soothing effects of water.

The 'Ray Donovan' actress, 61, was discovered dead in the St. Lawrence River in Cape Vincent, some 90 miles north of Syracuse, around 8:10 a.m. on Sunday (26.06.22).

In November 2020, she shared a moving Instagram post about Joe Biden defeating Donald Trump to become the next US president, making Kamala Harris the country's first female, black, and Asian American vice president.

"Back in Trump country, sporting my Biden/Harris mask," Mara exclaimed.

"Water is calming the madness of the last four years and this election! #whereisthelove.”

Additionally, Mara has posted a number of images of herself relaxing by the St. Lawrence River, one of which dated 2019 was accompanied by the statement, "63 degrees! The first river swim of the season was inspirational.

The actress, who is also well-known for her work on "ER," "Shameless," "Dexter," and "Law and Order," is thought to have been visiting her sister when she encountered trouble while swimming early one morning.

An official cause of death is still pending, according to New York State Troopers who responded to a 911 call, although they also noted there were no indications of wrongdoing and it appeared Mara had drowned.

Craig Dorfman, Mara's manager, described her as "electric, hilarious, and a true individual."

On the ABC soap opera "General Hospital," which he portrays as Kevin Collins, 64-year-old Jon Lindstrom said: "Crushed to learn about Mary Mara's premature passing. In 2008, we shared a stage in Malcolm Danare's "In Heat" at the Lost Playhouse in Los Angeles.

She was battling chemotherapy side effects. Uber-talented, brave, and intelligent. Without her, Earth will be much less vibrant. In memoriam (sic)

Mara's stepdaughter, sisters, brother-in-law, and nephew are still alive.

Mara is most remembered for playing Mrs. Sullivan on "Ray Donovan," but during the course of her career, which spanned more than three decades, she also appeared in over 20 films and 40 television programs, including "Lost," "West Wing," and "NYPD Blue."

Mara's most recent credit was for a part in the 2020 film "Break Even." She also had roles on "ER," "Shameless," and as Loretta Sweet on "ER."
