The Colorado Avalanche wins its first Stanley Cup in 21 years

The Colorado Avalanche are the current NHL champions, and they are intrepid travelers with a flare for the dramatic.

The Avalanche won their third Stanley Cup overall and first championship in 21 years by defeating the two-time defending champion Tampa Bay Lightning in Game 6.

The Lightning, who won the Stanley Cup in both 2020 and 2021, scored the game's first goal while Colorado scored two goals. Cale Makar of the Avalanche was named the series' most valuable player.

The narrative of the new NHL champions is told via key statistics. Colorado became became the fourth team in NHL history to sweep all four of its playoff series on the road in 2022. It has the second-best postseason record in league history with a 16-4 mark. Additionally, Colorado tied for the most comeback victories in NHL history with 10 throughout the playoffs.

It took several years for Colorado to win the championship. The team had the lowest record in the league at the end of the 2016–17 campaign. In both the first round of the playoffs in 2018 and the second round the previous three years, it was eliminated.

Erik Johnson, a 34-year-old defenceman for Colorado, stated, "This is what I've always dreamed of, with my friends, my dad. "That is the purpose of life. You surround yourself with supportive individuals. In addition to the members of the (team's) support personnel, it truly requires a village."

The New York Islanders dynasty from the early 1980s was the last team to win three consecutive NHL championships until Tampa Bay. Colorado will now look to start its own winning run.

They are a team that wants to establish a dynasty, according to Makar. "We're a group that wants to establish a legacy."
