Man Utd "considers" a transfer for Jamie Vardy as the striker's desperation grows

According to rumors, Manchester United is mulling a move for Jamie Vardy of Leicester as Erik ten Hag tries to resurrect his faltering assault.

The Red Devils have had a terrible start to the new era at Old Trafford, losing 2-1 to Brighton at home on the first weekend and then shockingly getting destroyed 4-0 by Brentford on Saturday. Alexis Mac Allister's shot into the Seagulls' goal during that period was the lone one for United.

The future of United's attacking options, however, is shrouded in paralyzing doubt. While Marcus Rashford has been linked with a transfer to Paris Saint-Germain after entering the final 12 months of his Red Devils deal, Cristiano Ronaldo is still eager to leave Old Trafford before the transfer deadline in September.

If the two leave, Anthony Martial would be the team's lone attacking option, and even his future at the organization is in doubt after a dreadful loan stint at Sevilla in Spain last season.

According to The Athletic, Vardy of Leicester is on United's shortlist as they search the market for a new striker. According to the article, the 36-year-contract old's expires next summer, and the Red Devils are reportedly mulling a bid for him.

However, in a development that comes as a blow to United, Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers has stated that preliminary discussions have taken place at the King Power Stadium regarding a new contract for Vardy.

Jamie Vardy's Leicester contract is currently in its final year.

United has backup plans in case they are unable to negotiate a deal for the Golden Boot winner for the 2019–20 season. Alvaro Morata, a former Chelsea attacker, has become a possibility since Atletico Madrid seems eager to let the Spaniard go. Ten Hag's hunt for an offensive recruit is getting more and more desperate, and the Espanyol hitman Raul de Tomas is also being considered.

The Red Devils have already experienced disappointment in their attempts to expand their striker options after having an offer for Marko Arnautovic from Bologna rejected. Due to the club's tremendous fan outcry, they have already abandoned their interest in the Austrian.

While a striker is a top priority for the club in the last weeks of the transfer season, midfielders are also being sought for. Of course, Frenkie de Jong has been a goal for most of the summer, while Adrien Rabiot of Juventus seems to be on the verge of joining Manchester United.
